While attempting (and failing) to explain why the Gauss Rifle in Operation: Anchorage is an Energy Weapon that uses Microfusion Cells, Emil Pagliarulo, the lead designer of Fallout 3, gave us a nice blatant lie. He was responding to a user pointing out that they could have added a new ammo type (2mm EC) for the rifle.
"Actually, we couldn't have, for various technical reasons (nope, I can't give a more detailed answer than that)."Of course, having access to the G.E.C.K. and also a bit of common sense (something Emil seems to be lacking in), it is obvious that this is a lie and that no such technical reasons exist. Typical of a company that caters to the lowest common denominator to expect the community to accept the lie at face value without any thought.
It is perfectly possible to add new ammo types and spread them through the game world. The refusal to give a more detailed answer is obviously just to avoid having to answer any questions about that false statement, such as "What technical reasons?"
Then again, what else can we expect from the person who was responsible for throwing together the travesty that is Fallout 3's ending?
Bonus Lie: See the arcing energy on the Gauss Rifle in the below screenshot? Yeah, it doesn't exist in the game.
